Another week of baseball is in the books. Here is a recap of Sunday's news and notes from around the league.


Astros: Signed RHP Jose Veras to a minor league contract. He was recently released by the Cubs. (

Giants: Showing strong interest in Cubs RHP Jeff Samardzija, who is expected to be traded before the deadline next month. The Yankees, Orioles, Red Sox, Blue Jays and Angels are also said to be in the mix. (USA Today)

Mets: Acquired LHP Blake Taylor from the Pirates as the player to be named later in the Ike Davis trade, the team announced. Taylor was Pittsburgh's second round in the 2013 draft.

Phillies: SS Jimmy Rollins said "of course" he would be willing to accept a trade if the team decides to rebuild.


Angels: SS Erick Aybar left Sunday's game with a sore left hip and is day-to-day (Orange County Register) ... LHP Tyler Skaggs (hamstring) threw a 30-pitch bullpen session and felt fine. (Orange County Register)

Astros: Placed RHP Josh Fields on the 15-day DL with forearm soreness, the team announced.

Athletics: RF Josh Reddick (knee) will begin a minor-league rehab assignment on Tuesday. (Bay Area News Group)

Blue Jays: DH Adam Lind has a bone bruise on his right foot and is day-to-day (National Post) ... RHP R.A. Dickey (groin) played catch and is on track to make his next scheduled start. (National Post)

Cardinals: LHP Kevin Siegrist (forearm) is expected to begin a minor league rehab assignment on Tuesday, GM John Mozeliak confirmed.

Diamondbacks: RHP Bronson Arroyo might be heading to the disabled list with an elbow injury. It would be his first career DL stint.

Giants: C Buster Posey was removed from Sunday's game as a precaution after taking a foul pitch to the face mask. He is heading for further evaluation.

Mets: RHP Daisuke Matsuzaka left Sunday's start after one inning with a severely upset stomach, the team announced.

Nationals: LHP Gio Gonzalez (hamstring) will return from the disabled list and start on Wednesday, manager Matt Williams confirmed ... OF Denard Span (back) was scratched from Sunday's lineup but expects to play in their next game Tuesday. (MASN Sports)

Orioles: RHP Dylan Bundy (Tommy John surgery) threw five innings in his first official minor league rehab start.

Padres: Placed RHP Nick Vincent on the 15-day DL with shoulder fatigue, the club announced.

Pirates: OF Neil Walker (appendectomy) will begin swinging a bat on Tuesday. (Pittsburgh Tribune-Review)

White Sox: OF Avisail Garcia (shoulder) played catch from 200 feet. He had season-ending surgery a few weeks ago. (


All-Star Game: Pirates OF Andrew McCutchen has jumped into a starting spot in the latest NL fan voting update.

Cardinals: RHP Carlos Martinez will make the spot start in place of RHP Adam Wainwright (elbow) on Monday.
