The Oakland Athletics have placed left-handed starting pitcher Drew Pomeranz on the 15-day disabled list due to a fractured right hand, the club announced Tuesday. As a corresponding move, right-handed reliever Evan Scribner has been recalled from Triple-A Sacramento.

As the AP notes, Pomeranz sustained the injury when he struck a chair in frustration following a disappointing outing on Monday.

Taken in tandem with the trade news of the day, this news seems to suggest that newly-acquired lefty Brad Mills will grab Pomeranz's spot in the rotation, which doesn't come back up until Saturday.

Pomeranz, 25, is 5-4 with a 2.91 ERA (130 ERA+), 1.24 WHIP and 48 strikeouts in 55 2/3 innings. He opened the season in the bullpen but was later moved into the rotation. In eight starts, he's gone 4-3 with a 3.21 ERA. The numbers were far better before the Rangers touched Pomeranz up for seven earned runs on eight hits in 3 2/3 innings Monday night.
