On Friday, Vanderbilt fell to Texas by a score of 4-0, and those two teams will meet again on Saturday to determine who advances to the finals of the College World Series to play either Virginia or Mississippi. In the course of Friday's game, Vandy junior right-hander Brian Miller tossed 7 1/3 effective innings. Here's one particularly arresting glimpse of his handiwork ...

To be sure, any number of pitchers get this kind of "bend" when they're delivering the ball (see also: Sale, Chris), but when it's captured at just the right instant you lay eyes upon the wonderfully grotesque. (Note: "Grotesque" is a compliment at least 45 percent of the time and is used as such in this instance.)

In conclusion: Pitchers, man. Pitchers.
