Regarding the Angels and struggling DH Raul Ibanez, here's the latest ...

Ibanez, 42, is batting .157/.258/.265 (50 OPS+) in 190 plate appearances, which, needless to say, is unacceptable production, particularly for a player who contributes nothing defensively. So the decision to cut him loose is certainly understandable.

That said, if this is indeed the end of the line for Ibanez, then it's been one heck of a career: 303 homers, 111 OPS+ across parts of 19 big-league seasons. As well, he's long been regarded as one of the game's most reliably solid citizens.

As for the Angels, they can use C.J. Cron as the primary DH while also using the slot to spell veterans like Albert Pujols and Josh Hamilton on occasion.
