Astros shortstop prospect Carlos Correa suffered a potentially serious leg injury during a minor-league game on Saturday night. Correa, playing for High-A Lancaster of the California League, sustained the injury while sliding feet-first into third base to complete a triple.

Here are some details from Lancaster broadcaster Jason Schwartz:

“Carlos was examined last night at a local hospital in California,” Astros general manager Jeff Luhnow said in a statement. “He will travel to Houston early this week to be evaluated further by the Astros medical staff before determining next steps. He will be placed on the disabled list and is expected to miss some time.”

Correa, 19, is batting .325/.417/.504 for Lancaster this season with 16 doubles and 20 steals in 61 games. The top overall pick of the 2012 draft, Correa entered this season as a consensus top-10 prospect. His performance to date has only improved his already highly impressive outlook.
