The Oakland A's were forced to lose their DH due to injuries Sunday, as Josh Donaldson had to be summoned from the DH spot to play third base. That meant that in the bottom of the 10th inning, they were forced to send closer Sean Doolittle to the plate in a one-run game.
The result was rather predictable:
Acutally, maybe not so predictable. Kudos to Doolittle for getting a bat on the ball and putting it in play. Red Sox closer Koji Uehara has some of the best pure stuff in the majors and Doolittle hasn't gotten regular at-bats since 2009, prior to converting to pitcher (he was drafted as a first baseman).
Still, with the out having been recorded and ending the game, Doolittle took to Twitter to express his disdain regarding the manner in which Uehara worked him:
Wow Koji thanks for the steady diet of splitters. When I face you, you're getting all fastballs! THIS ISN'T OVER!— Sean Doolittle (@whatwouldDOOdo) June 23, 2014
I shouldn't have to point this out, but I'll be safe: My wording above was as sarcastic as Doolittle's tweet. He's obviously not mad and is trying to be funny. From where I sit, he succeeded. Not that I should be surprised. He pretty much succeeds at everything these days.
