The Red Sox have called up infield/outfield prospect Mookie Betts, who will make his major-league debut on Saturday against the Yankees (source: Joey Nowak, MLB.com).

Betts, 21, was originally a fifth-round choice in 2011 out of John Overton High School in Brentwood, Tennessee. He entered the season ranked as the no. 75 overall prospect by Baseball America and the no. 62 overall prospect by MLB.com. However, Betts in 2014 has significantly improved his already impressive standing, as he's batted .345/.437/.520 in 359 plate appearances at the Double-A and Triple-A levels. Betts is capable of playing second and all three outfield positions, and he's also an excellent base-runner (88 career steals against just 13 times caught).

So how much of a roll has Betts been on of late? Well, there's this ...

On the downside, Betts gets to get his first taste of baseball at the highest level by digging in against Masahiro Tanaka.
