Giants reliever Sergio Romo is no longer the club's closer, manager Bruce Bochy told reporters Sunday.

“I talked to Sergio today,” Bochy said (sfgate.com). “I think it's the right time we tweaked this a little. He's still going to be part of the mix, but we're going to back off a little bit and do it by committee.”

Romo was outstanding to start the season, but he's blown five of his last 15 save chances and has a 9.00 ERA in that time, spanning 16 outings and 15 innings.

On the season, the All-Star reliever has 22 saves in 27 chances with a 5.17 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 26 strikeouts in 31 1/3 innings.

The Giants' committee approach in the late innings will include Romo, Santiago Casilla and Jeremy Affeldt.
