A few weeks back, the Cubs signed Manny Ramirez as a player/coach for their Triple-A affiliate in Iowa. The deal was met with much scrutiny, but the team made it clear they believed in his teaching abilities. They also said he was not going to get a call-up no matter what.
Ramirez, now 42, spent a few weeks getting back into shape at the team's complex in Arizona. He joined their Triple-A affiliate a few days ago and went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts in his first game. In his second game (first home game) on Monday, he swatted a two-run home run. Here's the video:
Royals right-hander Sugar Ray Marimon served up the two-run blast. Here's the box score for the game.
Ramirez has not played in MLB since abruptly retiring following his second PED-related suspension in 2011. He briefly played in Triple-A for the Rangers last season.
