Twins right-hander Ricky Nolasco is heading for an MRI on his elbow, reports Mike Bernardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press. He admitted to pitching through discomfort since spring training.

“After some coaxing he finally admitted he's been struggling since spring training with a bit of a sore elbow,” said assistant GM Rob Antony. “He said he can't get loose more than anything. Said it gets tight. Some days it's better than others. (Sunday) he had a real difficult time getting loose, so we called it a day after two innings.”

Nolasco, 31, did not notify the training staff of any discomfort until Monday. He missed close to four months with an elbow issue way back in 2007, but has since made at least 26 starts and thrown at least 157 2/3 innings every year from 2008-13.

In 18 starts and 103 2/3 innings this year, Nolasco has a 5.90 ERA and leads baseball in hits (140) and runs (68) allowed. He has the highest ERA among qualified starters.

The Twins signed Nolasco to a four-year, $49 million contract over the winter.
