Angels right-hander Jered Weaver was forced to exit Monday's start after only two innings due to lower back tightness, the team announced. He tried to warm up for the third inning but was unable to continue.

Weaver, 31, missed three weeks with inflammation near a disk in his lower back in 2012, so he has some history of back trouble. The team did not announce whether he will be sent for tests or anything like that, but it's safe to assume he will.

In 18 starts and 116 1/3 innings this season, Weaver is 9-6 with a 3.56 ERA. He went 11-8 with a 3.27 ERA in 24 starts last season after missing time with a broken non-pitching elbow.

The Angels came into Monday in wild-card position and 3.5 games back of the Athletics in the AL West. Obviously losing Weaver for any length of time would be a big problem.
