The Pirates have placed right-hander Gerrit Cole on the 15-day disabled list with tightness in his lat, according to Tom Singer of MLB.com.

Cole, 23, missed a little more than three weeks with shoulder fatigue earlier this season. The lat has been bothering him for a few days now, though the expectation was that a few days of rest would do the trick. Obviously that is not the case.

In 14 starts and 85 2/3 innings this season, Cole has a 7-4 record with a 3.78 ERA. He went 10-7 with a 3.22 ERA in 19 starts during his MLB debut last summer.

Right Brandon Cumpton will be called up from Triple-A to replace Cole in the rotation. The 25-year-old has a 4.61 ERA in nine spots starts so far this season.
