Another day of baseball is in the books. Here is a recap of Monday's news from around the league.


Athletics: Designated LHP Brad Mills for assignment, the team announced. He lost his rotation spot following the team's big trade with the Cubs over the weekend ... claimed OF Kenny Wilson off waivers from the Blue Jays, the club announced.

Brewers: Acquired approximately $339,000 in international spending pool money from the Athletics for minor league RHP Rodolfo Fernandez, the team announced.

Dodgers: Signed OF Roger Bernadina to a minor league contract. (MLB Daily Dish)

Indians: Acquired OF Chris Dickerson from the Pirates for a player to be named later or cash, the team announced. C George Kottaras was designated for assignment in a corresponding move.

Mariners: Designated C John Buck for assignment, the club announced.

Rangers: Designated UTIL Donnie Murphy for assignment and optioned OF Michael Choice to Triple-A, the team announced. RHP Roman Mendez and OF Jake Smolinski were called up in corresponding moves.

Rays: Acquired a little more than $1 million in international spending pool money from the Marlins in exchange for minor league RHP Matt Ramsey. (Tampa Bay Times and Tampa Tribune)


Rockies: OF Michael Cuddyer is open to signing an extension, though the two sides have not had any talks. (Denver Post)

White Sox: Willing to move 2B Gordon Beckham in the right deal, but LHP Jose Quintana is off limits. (Fox Sports)

Yankees: Do not have any interest in bringing back RHP A.J. Burnett. (New York Post)


Astros: First overall pick LHP Brady Aiken has an issue with his elbow ligament, and the team is trying to sign him to a reduced bonus. (Jon Heyman)

Giants: Agreed to terms with 14th overall pick RHP Tyler Beede. He will receive a slightly above slot $2.65 million bonus. (

Astros: Agreed to sign Dominican OF Ronny Rafael to a $1.5 million bonus. (


Angels: RHP Jered Weaver left Monday's start after two innings with lower back tightness.

Astros: OF Dexter Fowler (intercostal) could be activated as soon as Saturday ( ... OF Alex Presley left Monday's game with an apparent oblique injury. (

Blue Jays: Placed 1B Edwin Encarnacion on the 15-day DL with quad injury.

Cardinals: RHP Michael Wacha (shoulder) will rest for at least two more weeks before starting a throwing program. (

Diamondbacks: RHP Bronson Arroyo will undergo Tommy John surgery.

Indians: OF Michael Bourn (hamstring) is expected to miss 3-4 weeks.

Mets: X-rays on RHP Carlos Torres' hand came back negative. He was apparently hurt at some point during Monday's relief outing. (ESPN New York)

Pirates: Placed RHP Gerrit Cole on the 15-day DL with lat tightness.

Twins: RHP Ricky Nolasco is heading for an MRI on his elbow. He has been pitching through discomfort since spring training.


All-Star Game: Mariners 3B Kyle Seager will replace Encarnacion on the AL roster.

Home Run Derby: Both Angels OF Mike Trout and Tigers 1B Miguel Cabrera declined invitations to the Home Run Derby.

Cubs: RHP Dallas Beeler and RHP Kyle Hendricks will be called up to make their MLB debuts on Wednesday and Thursday, respectively. They will replace the traded Jeff Samardzija and Jason Hammel in the rotation. (
