The Twins on Wednesday announced that right-hander Ricky Nolaso has been placed on the disabled list because of a strained pitching elbow. The move was made retroactive to Monday. To take Nolasco's spot on the active roster, the Twins have recalled catcher/outfielder Chris Herrman.

In 18 starts and 103 2/3 innings this year, Nolasco, 31, has a 5.90 ERA and leads all of MLB in hits (140) allowed and runs (68) allowed. He has the highest ERA among qualified starters. As noted in this space, Nolasco recently admitted to feeling some discomfort in his elbow since spring training.

The Twins signed Nolasco to a four-year, $49 million contract this past offseason.
