VIDEO: Adrian Beltre asks for time, gets rung up instead

Houston at Texas: Springer sacrifices body during great catch

In the third inning of the Rangers-Astros game Wednesday night, Texas third baseman Adrian Beltre stepped out of the box while requesting -- OK, he was kind of demanding -- timeout from the home plate umpire.

In a scene rarely witnessed at the big-league level, the result was actually a denial of the request and instead a "looking" strikeout:

It appears the umpire at one point notes that Dallas Keuchel had already started his windup, so "what do you want me to do?" Well, the answer is clear, Beltre still wanted time. Not that he should have gotten it. As many of us were taught from a young age, you ask for time. The umpire doesn't have to grant it. While they seem to grant it most of the time at the MLB level, that doesn't mean it has to be 100 percent of the time.
