Clayton Kershaw gave up a home run to Chase Headley in the sixth inning Thursday night (MLB.com video) in Los Angeles, but it was no ordinary homer. It was the first run Kershaw had allowed since all the way back on June 13, ending his scoreless innings streak at 41.

Only 14 men in baseball history had longer streaks, most notably the record holder Orel Hershiser, who closed the 1988 season with 59 straight scoreless innings.

Since Hershiser, there have been two longer scoreless streaks than Kershaw, as Brandon Webb went 42 straight in 2007 and R.A. Dickey went 44 straight in 2012.

For many franchises, Kershaw would be the record-holder, but for the Dodgers he's only third, behind Hershiser and Don Drysdale, whose 58-inning scoreless streak stood from 1968 until Hershiser took it down in 1988.

Streak aside, though, Kershaw was still masterful. He'd throw his third complete game of the year, allowing only three hits and the one run, striking out 11 with one walk in a 3-1 Dodgers win.
