Because Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina (torn thumb ligaments) won't be able to participated in the upcoming All-Star Game in Minneapolis, Diamondbacks catcher Miguel Montero has been named to replace him on the NL roster, writes Steve Gilbert of MLB.com. Jonathan Lucroy of the Brewers, whom the players elected, will replace Molina as the NL starter behind the plate.
As for Montero, this season the 31-year-old is batting .265/.346/.419 (113 OPS+) with 11 homers in 83 games. Defensively, he leads the NL with 715 2/3 innings caught, and he still grades out as one of the best pitch-framers in baseball. Montero previously made the All-Star team in 2011.
