MINNEAPOLIS - The National League All-Star team is nearing completion, as Alfredo Simon of the Reds and Tyler Clippard of the Nationals were named as replacements for Johnny Cueto and Julio Teheran both started Sunday for their respective teams, making them ineligible to pitch in Tuesday's Midsummer Classic. Tyson Ross is pitching for the Padres, too, so there will be one more replacement named Sunday.

Simon, 33, is 12-3 with a 2.70 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 75 strikeouts in 116 2/3 innings this season. He's the MLB leader in victories. Simon wasn't even supposed to be a member of the Reds' rotation this season, but a spring injury to Mat Latos forced him in and he hasn't let go of the spot. This is the first time in his career to be an All-Star.

Clippard, 29, is one of baseball's best setup men. He came into Sunday with a 2.03 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 53 strikeouts in 40 innings. This is his second All-Star trip, as he also went in 2011 and was actually the game's winning pitcher that season.
