The Angels are targeting both Ian Kennedy and Huston Street of the Padres in a trade, reports Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports. The two sides have discussed Street but not yet Kennedy.

Rosenthal notes it may be difficult for the Halos to swing a trade for the two righties because they are both under team control through 2015, Kennedy as an arbitration-eligible player and Street via a club option. Los Angeles also came into the season with one of the lowest-ranked farm systems in baseball.

Kennedy, 29, is 7-9 with a 3.49 ERA in 20 starts and 124 1/3 innings this year. If you're a fan of sabermetrics, his 2.94 FIP is on par with guys like Zack Greinke (2.92) and Max Scherzer (2.96). Kennedy is a horse, making at least 31 starts and throwing at least 181 1/3 innings every year since 2010.

The 30-year-old Street has been outstanding for San Diego this year, going 24 for 25 in save chances with a 1.09 ERA and a 0.76 WHIP in 33 innings. He owns a stellar 2.03 ERA and 0.86 WHIP in three seasons with the Padres. Street's club option is worth an affordable $7 million.

The Angels have a surprisingly strong rotation led by Jered Weaver and Garrett Richards, but C.J. Wilson was just placed on the disabled list and the fifth spot has been something of a revolving door. Their closer's spot and bullpen in general has been a problem all year.

Los Angeles went into the All-Star break having won five straight and nine of 10 games. At 57-37, the Angels are only 1½ games back of the Athletics in the AL West with a nine-game lead on a wild-card spot.

The Padres, meanwhile, have the sixth-worst record in baseball at 41-54. They recently fired GM Josh Byrnes and are currently looking for his replacement. Kennedy and Street are two of their best trade chips.
