Trout went 2 for 3 with a double, a triple, a run scored and two runs driven in on the night. He tripled in a run in the first inning and later came around to score on Miguel Cabrera's home run. Trout later plated the game-winning run with a double in the fifth inning.
The decision for MVP essentially came down to Trout and Yankees captain Derek Jeter, who was playing in his final All-Star Game. Jeter went 2 for 2 with a double, scoring the game's first run on Trout's triple.
At age 22, Trout is the second youngest player to be named All-Star Game MVP behind Ken Griffey Jr. in 1992. Griffey was a few days younger.
