Mike Shannon is a St. Louis native who spent his entire playing career with the Cardinals and then went on to be a deliriously popular radio broadcaster for the team. That is, to say that Mike Shannon is beloved in St. Louis is to indulge in rank understatement.

Mr. Shannon on Tuesday last celebrated his 75th birthday. To mark the occasion, Anheuser-Busch, the products of which Mr. Shannon has at least a working familiarity, released the following world-championship one-off bottle of wholesome, nutritious Bud Heavy ...

There are many signifiers of a life well-lived -- regular haircuts and a Buick with patent-leather seats that takes up two spots, for instance -- but numbered among those signifiers is the verifable existence of a beer bottle ornamented with thine well-preserved mug.

So it is with Mike Shannon, baseball-ing gentleman nonpareil.
