Regular-season baseball is back. It's a beautiful thing, isn't it? Let's run through our usual rundown, in the meantime. As a reminder, these are simply quick hits. If you'd like the full story -- and why wouldn't you? -- click on the provided link.

THE BIG TRADE

Huston Street went to the Padres. Details all here.

MLB DRAFT

Angels: They worked out a deal with first-rounder Sean Newcomb.

Astros: They failed to sign first overall pick Brady Aiken. And now Aiken's adviser has ripped the Astros and we're off.

ROSTER MOVES

Braves: Dan Uggla was finally released.

Cubs: Kyle Hendricks is going to get a shot to keep the fourth starter job (Carrie Muskat).

Dodgers: Paco Rodriguez was recalled from the minors. Also, Justin Turner was activated from the DL while Carlos Triunfel was sent to Triple-A.

Marlins: Kevin Gregg has hit the DL with a sore elbow while A.J. Ramos was activated.

Twins: Danny Santana returned to the big-league club, with catcher Chris Herrmann returning to Triple-A.

REPORTS, RUMORS and SPECULATION

Cubs: Shortstop prospect Javier Baez has played two straight games at second base, but that doesn't mean a promotion is coming soon. It's to work on his flexibility (Cubs.com).

Royals: Billy Butler doesn't want to be traded, in fact, he wants the Royals to pick up his $12.5 million option for next season (kansascity.com).

Phillies: The growing sense is Cliff Lee is more likely to be traded than Cole Hamels, reports Jon Heyman.

Rays/Mariners: As the two clubs discuss David Price and/or Ben Zobrist heading to Seattle, Mariners top pitching prospect Taijuan Walker is front and center, reports Jon Heyman.

INJURY UPDATES

Angels: Erick Aybar left Friday's game with a sore right groin, per the broadcast.

Athletics: Josh Reddick will be re-evaluated after a weekend of minor-league rehab games (Athletics.com). How did he do Friday? Um ...

Braves: Evan Gattis is on schedule to return to the lineup as early as Monday (ajc.com).

Cardinals: Kevin Siegrist will hit Triple-A Memphis Saturday as he works through his rehab assignment (stltoday.com).

Diamondbacks: Chris Owings, albeit slowly, is working his way back from his injury (Diamondbacks.com).

Giants: Has Matt Cain dealt with bone chips in his elbow all season? SFgate.com has the story. Marco Scutaro was held out Friday with a stiff neck (SFGiants.com).

Indians: Michael Bourn has begun running on his injured hamstring (Indians.com).

Mariners: James Paxton made a rehab start Thursday and will make at least two more before the club considers activating him from the DL (Ryan Divish via Twitter).

Orioles: Ubaldo Jimenez is set to make a rehab start Wednesday (Orioles.com).

Pirates: Gerrit Cole isn't too far away from a return to the rotation (post-gazette.com).

Rangers: Looks like Derek Holland is slated to rejoin the rotation in late August (Rangers.com). It's doubtful Alexi Ogando pitches again this season (dallasnews.com). Shin-Soo Choo won't play the field on artificial turf in Toronto, due to his balky ankle (dallasnews.com).

Red Sox: It sounds like Shane Victorino isn't far from a return. Boston.com has the details.

Reds: Skip Schumaker is still dealing with some concussion symptoms (Reds.com).

Royals: Jason Vargas has resumed throwing after his appendectomy (Royals.com).

Tigers: Andy Dirks should be beginning (another) rehab assignment "within a week." (Freep.com).

Yankees: CC Sabathia's season is over, as he'll undergo knee surgery.

MISCELLANY

All-Star Game: It had the largest viewing audience since the 2010 Midsummer Classic (Twins.com).

David Cone: I had no idea there was such a thing, but Cone has been inducted into the Irish American Baseball Hall of Fame (Yankees.com).
