In the ninth inning of Sunday night's Dodgers-Cardinals game (LAD 4, STL 3), L.A. shortstop Hanley Ramirez took a Trevor Rosenthal fastball straight on the forearm ...

Ouch. Fortunately for Ramirez and the Dodgers, X-rays were negative; however, he'll be re-examined early next week (source: Bob Nightengale via Twitter). Even if further examination turns up nothing, it wouldn't surprise if Ramirez needed at least a few games to get over, say, a deep bone bruise. That looked ugly, but for now it appears Ramirez avoided serious injury.

The plunking above comes after Ramirez was drilled by Carlos Martinez in the fourth inning, which prompted Clayton Kershaw to retaliate by hitting Matt Holliday, which prompted Holliday to take out none other than Ramirez on a hard slide.

Rough night for Hanley, is what we're saying.
