The Yankees acquired Chase Headley from the Padres on Tuesday afternoon, though he was unable to make it the ballpark in time for the start of their game against the Rangers. The Padres were in Chicago to play the Cubs.
Headley arrived in the early innings and eventually got into the game as a pinch-hitter in the late innings. And in the game he stayed as the Yankees and Rangers needed 14 innings to settle their contest. New York eventually walked off with a 2-1 win (box score).
Headley, naturally, gave his new team the win with a walk-off single against Rangers starter turned reliever for a night Nick Tepesch. Here's the play:
Tuesday must have been a pretty hectic day for Headley. Playing baseball for a few innings was probably the easiest part. Wake up a Padre, get traded to the Yankees, fly to New York, become a True Yankee. Not a bad 24 hours.
