Another fun day of baseball is in the books. Here is a recap of Tuesday's news from around the league as the trade deadline draws closer and closer.


Blue Jays: Designated LHP Brad Mills for assignment, the team announced. The move clears a roster spot for top prospect RHP Aaron Sanchez.

Cubs: Designated IF Darwin Barney for assignment, the team announced. The move clears a roster spot for UTIL Emilio Bonifacio, who was activated off the 15-day DL.

Yankees: Acquired 3B Chase Headley and cash from the Padres for UTIL Yangervis Solarte and RHP Rafael DePaula. (Jon Heyman)


Blue Jays: Interested in Rangers OF Alex Rios. (Jon Heyman)

Cardinals: Still interested in Red Sox RHP Jake Peavy. (Jon Heyman)

Giants: They are "intensifying" their efforts to add a starting pitcher. (CSN Bay Area)

Mariners: Interested in Marlins 3B Casey McGehee. (Jon Heyman)

Marlins: Continue to show interest in Athletics RHP Jim Johnson. They've discussed a deal involving minor league LHP Adam Conley. (Miami Herald)

Mets: Pushing hard to trade RHP Bartolo Colon, but they are not interested in eating money to make it happen. (ESPN New York and Newsday)

Phillies: LHP Cliff Lee has little trade value because of his big contract. (Jon Heyman)

Pirates: Team president Frank Coonelly says the team has the financial flexibility to add pieces at the trade deadline. (Fox Sports)

Yankees: Talking to the White Sox about LHP John Danks. Talks are in the early stages. (Jon Heyman)


Angels: LHP C.J. Wilson (ankle) threw an "up and down" bullpen session on Tuesday. (MLB.com)

Cardinals: LHP Kevin Siegrist (forearm, shoulder) is expected to be activated off the disabled list on Wednesday. (CBS Sports Radio)

Diamondbacks: Placed OF Cody Ross on the 15-day DL with a calf strain, the team announced.

Giants: Manager Bruce Bochy said 1B Brandon Belt is "making progress" but is still a few days away from resuming baseball activities (MLB.com) ... OF Angel Pagan (back) was able to take swings fom both sides of the plate. (ESPN)

Mariners: Manager Lloyd McClendon said LHP Roenis Elias "checked out fine" after leaving Monday's start with forearm cramps. (MLB.com)

Phillies: Placed trade candidate 1B/OF John Mayberry Jr. on the 15-day DL with wrist inflammation.

Pirates: 3B Pedro Alvarez left Tuesday's game with knee discomfort. (Pittsburgh Post-Gazette)

Orioles: RHP Ubaldo Jimenez (ankle) will throw a bullpen session on Wednesday and could soon begin a minor league rehab assignment. (MLB.com)

Rangers: Placed C Geovany Soto on the 15-day DL with a groin strain, the club announced.

Rays: Placed RHP Joel Peralta on the 15-day DL. He may have the Chikungunya virus.

Reds: SS Zack Cozart left Tuesday's game after taking a pitch to the finger. X-rays were negative and he is day-to-day. (MLB.com)

Rockies: Placed SS Troy Tulowitzki on the 15-day DL with a hip flexor strain ... RHP Jordan Lyles (hand) is on track to be activated off the disabled list on August 4, the first day he is eligible. (MLB.com)

Tigers: RHP Joel Hanrahan (Tommy John surgery) is "still a longshot" to pitch this season. (Detroit News)

Twins: 1B Joe Mauer (oblique) has started hitting off a tee (MLB.com) ... RHP Kyle Gibson has been scratched from Wednesday's start with a stiff back. RHP Anthony Swarzak will start in his place. (St. Paul Pioneer Press)

Yankees: UTIL Kelly Johnson will have an MRI after leaving Tuesday's game with a groin injury, the team announced.


MLB: Has started formally interviewing candidates for Bud Selig's successor. MLB COO Rob Manfred is "heavily favored."

Athletics: Owner Lew Wolff has accepted the city's changes and settled their new 10-year lease agreement to remain in the O.Co Coliseum.
