MLive.com's James Schmehl writes that Hanrahan has been shutdown following his Saturday bullpen session, and it's not certain when he'll be able to resume throwing. Hanrahan is working his way back from May 2013 Tommy John surgery. On Twitter, Lynn Henning now characterizes Hanrahan as a "longshot" to pitch for the Tigers this season. Initially, the team had been hoping that Hanrahan would be able to contribute as early as June.
In early May, the Tigers signed Hanrahan to a one-year, $1-million contract, plus up to an additional $2 million in performance bonuses.
Hanrahan, age 32, has pitched to a 3.85 ERA (106 ERA+) across parts of seven major-league seasons. He has 100 career saves and was an All-Star for the Pirates in 2011 and 2012.
