Another wonderful day of baseball is in the books. The non-waiver trade deadline is exactly one week away now. Here is a recap of Wednesday's news from around the league.

ROSTER MOVES & TRANSACTIONS

Phillies: Designated RHP Jeff Manship for assignment, the club announced. C Carlos Ruiz (concussion) was activated off the disabled list in a corresponding move.

Tigers: Acquired RHP Joakim Soria from the Rangers for minor leaguers RHP Jake Thompson and RHP Corey Knebel. GM Dave Dombrowski confirmed RHP Joe Nathan will remain the closer. (MLB.com)

Twins: Designated RHP Matt Guerrier for assignment, the team announced. RHP Ryan Pressly was called up in a corresponding move.

Yankees: Designated RHP Bruce Billings for assignment and called up RHP Chris Leroux, the team announced.

RUMORS & SPECULATION

Astros: Reluctant to trade their young starters but will listen to offers for RHP Chad Qualls and LHP Tony Sipp. (Jon Heyman)

Padres: Rangers assistant GM A.J. Preller has emerged as the top candidate for their vacant GM job (Jon Heyman) ... They've set a high price for RHP Ian Kennedy and could wind up keeping him and RHP Joaquin Benoit. They're talking to teams about those two as well as OF Chris Denorfia. (Jon Heyman)

Phillies: Have considered releasing 1B Ryan Howard after the season. Jon Heyman thinks that would be a big mistake ... Multiple teams have been scouting LHP Antonio Bastardo. (CSN Philly)

Pirates: Have been scouting the Diamondbacks bullpen in recent weeks. (Fox Sports)

Rays: Jon Heyman has a team-by-team rundown of possible fits for LHP David Price.

Red Sox: Have not engaged closer RHP Koji Uehara in contract extension talks. (WEEI.com)

Rockies: Looking for a big return for LHP Jorge De La Rosa and content with keeping him. (Jon Heyman)

INJURY UPDATES

Angels: Placed IF Grant Green on the 15-day DL with a back injury, the team announced.

Blue Jays: Both 1B Edwin Encarnacion (quad) and OF Nolan Reimold (calf) could be activated off the disabled list next week. (Fox Sports)

Dodgers: Manager Don Mattingly confirmed SS Hanley Ramirez (wrist) is "still feeling it," but he remains day-to-day. (Orange County Register)

Giants: The team is "growing more concerned" about 1B Brandon Belt's concussion. (CSN Bay Area)

Marlins: RHP Kevin Gregg (elbow), IF Rafael Furcal (hamstring) and IF Derek Dietrich (wrist) are not yet ready to resume baseball activities. (Miami Herald)

Mets: Manager Terry Collins confirmed SS Ruben Tejeda feels "pretty good" after being hit in the head by a pitch. He doesn't have any concussion symptoms. (ESPN)

Orioles: RHP Ubaldo Jimenez (ankle) threw a 25-pitch bullpen session and did some running drills (MLB.com) ... 3B Manny Machado (back) is on anti-inflammatories and is still day-to-day. (MASN Sports)

Pirates: Placed OF Starling Marte on the 7-day concussion disabled list, the team announced ... RHP Gerrit Cole (lat) threw a 70-pitch simulated game. (KDKA-TV)

Nationals: 3B Ryan Zimmerman was placed on the 15-day DL with a hamstring injury.

Rays: OF Wil Myers (wrist) has started some light throwing and swinging. (Tampa Bay Times)

Royals: 1B Eric Hosmer was pulled from Wednesday's game with "decreased grip strength in his hand." (Kansas City Star)

Tigers: RHP Joel Hanrahan (Tommy John surgery) has been shut down following a setback.

Twins: RHP Ricky Nolasco (elbow) will throw a bullpen session on Saturday. (MLB.com)

Yankees: GM Brian Cashman said it's "too early to call" whether the rest and rehab program is working for RHP Masahiro Tanaka (elbow) (MLB.com) ... Placed UTIL Kelly Johnson on the 15-day DL with a groin strain, the team announced.

MISCELLANY

2015 Draft: The competitive balance lottery results were announced. Cubs president of baseball operations Theo Epstein isn't happy the Cardinals received a pick.

Mark McGwire: When asked about his relationship with Jose Canseco, McGwire said "I don't care to ever speak to him again."
