Derek Jeter collects 3,420th hit, moves into seventh all-time

Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter collected three hits in his first three at-bats Monday night against the Rangers in Arlington, pushing his career total to 3,420, which meant that he tied and later passed the great Carl Yastrzemski on the career hit list and now sits in seventh all-time.

Here's the knock that moved him past Yaz:

So, the updated hits list in baseball history:

1. Pete Rose, 4256
2. Ty Cobb, 4191
3. Hank Aaron, 3771
4. Stan Musial, 3630
5. Tris Speaker, 3515
6. Honus Wagner, 3430
7. Derek Jeter, 3420
8. Carl Yastrzemski, 3419
9. Paul Molitor, 3319
10. Eddie Collins, 3314

Barring a season-ending injury, Jeter seems a safe bet to pass Wagner. Grabbing 95 more hits in the final 57 games of the season isn't happening, though, so Speaker is pretty well out of reach. That means Jeter is a pretty sure bet to finish with the sixth-most hits in the history of baseball. Not too shabby.
