Astros, on pace for another 95-plus losses, raising ticket prices for 2015

The Astros are improved this year! Improved in the sense that they are on pace to lose "only" 97 games in 2014 after losing at least 106 games every year from 2011-13. Houston still has baseball's second-worst record, with only the injury-riddled Rangers faring worse.

Despite the team's seemingly never-ending rebuild and steady place at the bottom of the standings, they're going to hike ticket prices next season:

But wait, it gets better:

Whoops. Cosart was sent to the Marlins for prospects in a six-player swap before Thursday's trade deadline.

"This will be the first time we raise ticket prices since 2008," Astros president Ryan Reid said to Jose de Jesus Ortiz of the Houston Chronicle. "It's not going to affect all season tickets. It'll affect about 70 percent of our season tickets."

Now, to be fair, the Astros have seen attendance increase in recent years. Baseball-Reference.com says they are averaging 22,333 fans per game this year, up from 20,394 per game last year and 19,849 the year before that. Ticket prices are simple supply and demand -- teams charge what people are willing to pay.

If more fans are coming to the park, then the Astros have every right to adjust ticket prices. Just the timing is odd. Another awful season and the pitcher you just traded is on the brochure. Geez.
