The Angels have placed left-hander Tyler Skaggs on the 15-day disabled list with a flexor tendon strain. He confirmed he does not need surgery and said he expects to pitch again this year. Skaggs left Thursday's start after 4 2/3 hitless innings due to the injury.

Skaggs, 23, missed roughly three weeks earlier this week with a hamstring injury. He was initially diagnosed with a forearm strain, which is usually code for an elbow problem. The team said doctors confirmed his ulnar collateral ligament was intact after leaving Thursday's game.

In 18 starts and 113 innings this year, Skaggs is 5-5 with a 4.30 ERA. The Angels acquired him from the Diamondbacks in the Mark Trumbo trade over the winter. Skaggs was originally drafted by the Halos and was dealt to Arizona in the Dan Haren swap a few years ago.

The Angels will get C.J. Wilson back off the disabled list on Saturday, so he'll jump right into the rotation to replace Skaggs. The Halos still have Jered Weaver, Garrett Richards, Hector Santiago and Matt Shoemaker in the rotation.

Lefty Michael Roth has been recalled to fill the roster spot, according to the team. The 24-year-old has a 6.55 ERA in 22 big-league innings over the last two seasons.
