Mets starting pitcher Matt Harvey is still unlikely to see game action this season -- though he's holding out hope for the playoffs -- but he feels great after a 20-pitch bullpen session Tuesday.

From CBS New York:

“I didn't think things would feel this good and this easy, but I couldn't be happier,” Harvey said, according to the team's official website. “Excited about moving forward.”

Harvey, 25, threw off the mound for the first time since surgery on Friday. He said his mechanics were solid in Tuesday's session.

“I feel like they didn't leave in the amount of time that I wasn't able to use them,” Harvey said. “I was happy that things were smooth and I'm glad I had no setbacks.”

Harvey, 25, underwent Tommy John surgery on Oct. 22 of last year, so he's definitely making a quick recovery. At the bare minimum, the Mets have to be ecstatic that he'll be 100 percent for next season, so long as there aren't setbacks.

Harvey was 9-5 with a 2.27 ERA (158 ERA+), 0.93 WHIP and 191 strikeouts against only 31 walks in 178 1/3 innings pitched last season. He started the All-Star Game in Citi Field and finished fourth in NL Cy Young voting.
