UPDATE: Jennings has been diagnosed with a concussion, the team announced. A CT scan came back clean, so he suffered no other injuries. Jennings will remain in the hospital overnight for observation. Great news. That looked very bad.

Scary moment in Thursday night's Marlins-Pirates game. Miami left-hander Dan Jennings was hit in the side of the head by a line drive off the bat of Jordy Mercer. Here's the play:

Jennings, as you can see, briefly rose to his feet immediately after being hit, but he soon stumbled to his knees. He never lost consciousness and was able to wave to fans as he was being carted off the field.

The Marlins have yet to release an update on Jennings, who will surely head for a battery of tests. It's unclear if one of the new padded hats would have helped in this situation.

Jennings, 27, has a 1.05 ERA in 34 1/3 relief innings for the Marlins this year. He owns a career 2.39 ERA in 94 innings across the last three seasons, all with the Fish.
