Yankees place Brian McCann on 7-day concussion DL

The Yankees have placed catcher Brian McCann on the seven-day disabled list with a concussion, the club announced Saturday. As a corresponding move, catcher Austin Romine has been recalled from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. In a related move, the Yankees also unconditionally released Brian Roberts.

McCann, 30, suffered the concussion Friday night in the sixth inning and left the game, an eventual 10-6 win over the Indians. He's hitting .238/.294/.384 (89 OPS+) with 13 homers and 49 RBI this season, after signing a five-year, $85 million deal with the Yankees this past offseason.

The Yankees enter Saturday trailing the Orioles by five games in the AL East and the Royals by just a half-game for the second AL wild card.
