The Athletics will place shortstop Jed Lowrie on the DL on Thursday because of a fractured right index finger, writes Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle. Lowrie had been hoping to play through the injury, but now that's not going to happen. As Jane Lee tweets, Lowrie hopes to return to the active roster in two to three weeks.

The 30-year-old Lowrie this season is batting .238/.317/.354 (92 OPS+) in 110 games. Last season, Lowrie put up an OPS+ of 120 and hit 15 homers for the A's.

For the time being, Eric Sogard will likely fill in at short, and minor-league shortstop Andy Parrino is likely to be called up once Lowrie is de-activated.
