The 2014 Little League World Series officially started on Thursday in Williamsport, Pa. Jackie Robinson West Little League from Chicago beat Washington by the score of 12-2 thanks to three home runs (and a triple!) by right fielder Pierce Jones.

Jones was the star on the field, no doubt about it, but teammate and first baseman Trey Hondras grabbed some attention with his pregame good luck ritual:

Smooth, kid. Adorable too. Talking to girls for good luck is always advisable.

See? Sometimes Little League is just like the big leagues.
