As noted in Friday's nightly round-up, White Sox outfielder Avisail Garcia was in line for a return to the active roster despite long being expected to miss the rest of the season after undergoing shoulder surgery on April 10. Now it's official: The team has announced that Garcia has been activated from the 60-day DL. To make room for Garcia, outfielder Moises Sierra has been placed on the disabled list with a back injury.
The 23-year-old Garcia, who owns a career batting line of .287/.323/.411 across parts of three big-league seasons, was off to a strong start in 2014 (128 OPS+, two homers in eight games) before suffering the injury of note on April 9. Garcia batted .340/.377/.460 in 14 games for Triple-A Charlotte during his recently completed rehab assignment.
The White Sox acquired the highly regarded Garcia from the Tigers leading up to the 2013 non-waiver deadline as part of the three-way trade that sent Jake Peavy to the Red Sox and Jose Iglesias to Detroit.
