Cubs top prospect Kris Bryant, the hard-hitting third baseman presently playing for Triple-A Iowa, was forced to exit Saturday's game after apparently aggravating a previous left foot/toe injury. As MLB.com's Carrie Muskat writes, initial X-rays of Bryant's left big toe were inconclusive, and he's now scheduled for an MRI on Sunday.

The 22-year-old Bryant is destroying the ball this season -- a combined line of .333/.439/.678 at the Double- and Triple-A levels -- just as he has since being taken with the second overall pick of the 2013 draft. Bryant recently hit his 40th home run of the season and will probably head into 2015 as the top-ranked prospect in all of baseball.

Bryant may not have been in line for a September call-up even without any injury concerns, but this foot problem, even if not serious, may make a 2014 big-league debut even less likely.
