J.J. Hoover apologizes to Reds fans after HBP ends game

Entering the game with a 4-4 tie in the ninth inning, Reds reliever J.J. Hoover needed to post some zeroes to get his team to extra innings. Instead, he allowed a walk, single, walk and then hit Jon Jay with a pitch, to give the Cardinals a walk-off hit-by-pitch. Here's the final play:

Hoover is badly struggling this season, as he's now 1-10 with a 5.37 ERA.

He did take to Twitter to show some accountability to Reds fans, though:

That's a class move. He didn't have to say anything, after all.
