On Friday, the Athletics announced architectural consultant 360 Architecture will evaluate design options for a new ballpark on the current O.co Coliseum site, which would keep the team in Oakland.
A's owner Lew Wolff has been unable to make any progress towards getting the team a new stadium in recent years. At one point the club hoped to move south to Fremont, but the Giants own territorial rights and resisted.
The Athletics signed a new 10-year-old lease to remain in the O.co Coliseum in July. The deal allows them to leave Oakland for a new stadium as soon as December 2017 with two years' notice.
360 Architecture was involved in the construction of MetLife Stadium, home of the NFL's New York Giants and Jets.
