VIDEO: Yankees retire Hall of Famer Joe Torre's No. 6

By Mike Axisa | Baseball Writer

Prior to Saturday's win over the White Sox (NY 5, CWS 3), the Yankees retired the No. 6 in honor of long-time Hall of Fame manager Joe Torre. He also had a plaque added to Yankee Stadium's Monument Park in his honor.

Here is the unveiling of the No. 6 in Monument Park:

And here is Torre's speech to close out the ceremony:

Torre spent 12 years (1996-2007) as manager of the Yankees, watching over their most recent dynasty in the late 1990s and early 2000s. The team went 1,173-767 (.605) under his watch, winning 10 division titles, six AL pennants and four World Series.

With No. 6 retired and Derek Jeter's No. 2 sure to be retired in the future, the Yankees are out of single digit numbers. They have all been retired. Here's the list:

1 -- Billy Martin
2 -- Jeter (eventually)
3 -- Babe Ruth
4 -- Lou Gehrig
5 -- Joe DiMaggio
6 -- Torre
7 -- Mickey Mantle
8 -- Yogi Berra and Bill Dickey
9 -- Roger Maris

The Yankees also honored former players Goose Gossage, Tino Martinez and Paul O'Neill with plaques in Monument Park this summer. Bernie Williams will be honored next season, according to the team.
