The Orioles, hours after acquiring Alejandro De Aza from the White Sox, also acquired infielder Kelly Johnson from the Red Sox. Johnson along with minor-league infielder Michael Almanzar goes to Baltimore, and minor-league infielders Jemile Weeks and Ivan De Jesus Jr. head to the Red Sox.
Johnson, 32, is batting .212/.290/.354 in 87 games for the Red Sox and Yankees this season. Almanzar, 23, is a career .251/.305/.376 hitter with 55 home runs across parts of seven minor league seasons. The Orioles selected Almanzar in the December Rule 5 draft but wound up returning him to Boston in July.
On the other side of things, Weeks, 27, has spent the vast majority of the last two seasons in the minors, but he has 970 major-league plate appearances to his credit-- over that span he's put up a .677 OPS with 38 steals. De Jesus, also 27, hit .282/.358/.389 in 113 games for Triple-A Norfolk this season.
