We all know the fears felt by Fantasy owners of Max Scherzer. There are several.
One, he can't possibly match his success of 2013. Point well taken. Who goes 21-3 and exceeds 10 strikeouts per nine innings two years in a row? After all, Sandy Koufax is retired.
Two, a contract dispute has resulted in a bit of mudslinging between agent Scott Boras and Tigers management.
Three, he concluded his spring with a rather mundane 3.71 ERA.
So here is a one-word response to those fears, albeit from a guy who snagged Scherzer with the seventh overall pick in his points league: Hogwash.
Scherzer is known for his serious, meticulous approach to his craft. He is not the kind to allow contract negotiations or expectations to hinder his performance. In fact, his motivation as an impending free agent could prove beneficial. And his stuff, simply put, is lights-out.
In other words, don't fret. You probably have plenty of Fantasy-related things to worry about. Max Scherzer shouldn't be one of them.
