On Wednesday's Fantasy Baseball Today, we reviewed a list of pitchers who turned in a quality start on Tuesday. The likes of Collin McHugh and Franklin Morales probably won't be regulars on this list, but there are actually 16 pitchers who have made at least four starts and have registered a quality start in every one of their outings this year.
Most of the names on that list are ones you would expect to see, like Felix Hernandez, Yu Darvish and Johnny Cueto. Looking more out of place are Jesse Chavez, Jason Vargas, John Danks, Tom Koehler, Jason Hammel and Aaron Harang. Chavez and Vargas have a chance to stick among the quality start leaders, as both pitchers have good control and can be very efficient, lasting deep into games. Danks has shown a similar ability in the past, though he is four years removed from being an innings eater.
I'm not buying Koehler, Hammel and Harang as candidates for a high quality start rate, as all three have struggled frequently with control and could rack up pitch counts quickly. In fact, even this season, both Hammel and Harang have averaged more than 4.10 pitches per plate appearance, clocking in far above the major league average of 3.85.
