TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) Wes Helms went 3-for-4 and drove in four runs to lead the Milwaukee Brewers to an 8-5 victory over the Chicago White Sox on Sunday.
The loss left the White Sox with some concerns surrounding their projected No. 4 starter. Left-hander Scott Schoeneweis (1-2), who was a reliever last season, gave up six runs on eight hits in just 3 1-3 innings.
Schoeneweis also walked three and struck out six, throwing 86 pitches in the outing.
"They don't count," Schoeneweis said of his 9.31 ERA this spring. "I'm not saying I'm concerned, that was just a bad overall performance. I made a lot of bad pitches and that's the reason for the results. I felt before today, I was throwing much better than the results were showing. Today was pretty much bad pitching and bad results."
Schoeneweis was in trouble the first two innings, but managed to get out without giving up a run. That changed in the third when Matt Ginter had an RBI single and Ben Grieve got an RBI double.
In the fourth, Schoeneweis gave up a leadoff triple to Mark Johnson, followed by a walk and a single. After he struck out Lyle Overbay, Ozzie Guillen gave him the hook.
Meanwhile, Milwaukee starter Matt Kinney went five innings and allowed four runs on seven hits, giving him a 1-2 record on the spring.
