Los Angeles at Texas

Venue: Rangers Ballpark in Arlington
  •

Like many teams this season, the Los Angeles Angels are having trouble keeping Josh Hamilton in the ballpark.

That task now falls to Jered Weaver, who doesn't typically pitch well in Arlington as he looks to become the first AL pitcher to start 6-0 this season in Sunday night's series finale against the Texas Rangers.

Hamilton has homered three times in this series as Texas (22-12) and Los Angeles (15-19) have split two games. The slugger leads the AL with a .402 average and tops the majors with 18 home runs and 41 RBIs, including nine homers and 15 RBIs over his last six contests.

"It's been a good week," he said. "I'm thanking God for it. I'm trying to stay out of the way and think as little as possible and go out there and just go. Just ride it while it's going."

He'll be up against Weaver (5-0, 1.60 ERA), who is second in the AL in ERA and leads the league in opponent batting average at .174. Hamilton is 9 for 34 (.265) with one homer against the right-hander.

Weaver opened this six-game trip by limiting Minnesota to one run over six innings in Monday's 8-3 victory, one start after his no-hitter at home against the Twins on May 2. The run he allowed Monday is the only one he has yielded in 23 innings.

Weaver is 1-6 with a 5.35 ERA in his last 11 outings at Texas. Weaver went 2-2 with a 3.34 ERA in five 2011 starts against the Rangers.

Hamilton may not be the hitter on the majors' highest scoring team that Weaver is most worried about. Elvis Andrus is hitting .413 against the Angels ace, going 12 for 18 with four extra-base hits last year.

Andrus went 0 for 3 with a walk in Saturday's 4-2 defeat as his 11-game hitting streak ended. The shortstop batted .426 with 11 runs scored and seven RBIs during that run.

Albert Pujols, meanwhile, continues to fail to produce for the Angels.

Pujols has a .195 average with just one homer - last Sunday against Toronto. He's 1 for 7 in this series with no extra-base hits over his last 52 road at-bats.

Perhaps he will find inspiration Sunday against Neftali Feliz (2-1, 3.38). Pujols had a one-out double in the ninth inning off Feliz as part of the Cardinals' tying, two-run rally in their memorable 10-9, 11-inning win over Texas in Game 6 of last year's World Series.

Feliz continues to adapt well as a starter, yielding one run over six innings to earn Tuesday's 10-3 win at Baltimore in which Hamilton homered four times.

The Rangers right-hander hasn't allowed an earned run over his last 12 1-3 innings against the Angels entering his first start against them.

The Angels' C.J. Wilson became the first pitcher in 11 seasons to start consecutive games with 5 2-3 innings Saturday after he threw 22 pitches Friday and was pulled due to rain. Mark Trumbo had a two-run homer and Kendrys Morales' sacrifice fly in the seventh inning gave Los Angeles the lead for good.

"It was a great bounce-back win. A long night last night, you can't say enough for what C.J. did," manager Mike Scioscia said.
