Philadelphia at Milwaukee

Venue: Miller Park

The Milwaukee Brewers feel they should be doing much better. They certainly can't do much worse, sitting at the bottom of the NL Central.

The Brewers look to build on a stirring comeback victory over the Philadelphia Phillies as the teams meet Saturday night at Miller Park.

Milwaukee (23-37) has dropped 26 of 35 to fall into last place. After losing 5-1 to Philadelphia (31-31) in the opener of this four-game set Thursday, the Brewers appeared headed for a similar fate Friday.

Milwaukee, though, erased a four-run deficit against Cliff Lee and won on Aramis Ramirez's walkoff single that scored Jean Segura in a 5-4 victory.

"We know we are better than we have played so far this season," said Ramirez, who missed 23 games earlier this year with a knee sprain. "I hoping this can be a springboard to get us to start playing better."

The Brewers took two of three at Philadelphia last weekend.

Segura legged out a triple in the seventh inning Friday and scored the tying run on an error. He also beat out an infield hit to start the winning rally in the ninth.

The shortstop leads the major leagues with 19 infield hits, and his 2-for-5 effort Friday snapped a 6-for-34 (.176) slump.

"He really continues to play well," manager Ron Roenicke said. "He's an exciting player."

The Phillies, who had a season-high five-game winning streak snapped, will send Kyle Kendrick (6-3, 3.12 ERA) to the mound Saturday. The right-hander has won his last two starts, yielding four runs in 15 innings.

He threw a six-hitter for his second complete game of the season and fourth of his career in a 7-2 win over Miami on Monday. He helped himself with an RBI triple.

Kendrick, 1-2 with a 3.52 ERA in four career starts versus Milwaukee, yielded three hits in eight innings of an 8-0 road victory Aug. 19 in the most recent one.

Milwaukee's Tom Gorzelanny (1-0, 2.01) is scheduled to start in place of Marco Estrada, who is on the disabled list with a hamstring injury.

Gorzelanny is a former starter, but he's made one start in 69 games over the last two seasons with Washington and Milwaukee. All 24 of the left-hander's appearances in 2013 have been in relief, and he hasn't thrown more than 30 pitches in any of them.

"We're not asking him to go five, six innings," Roenicke told the team's official website. "If he had all 10-pitch innings maybe he'd be able to do it, but the pitch count whether he can go 50, 60, I don't know."

Norichika Aoki has gone 59 plate appearances without striking out, the longest streak by a Brewer since Brady Clark went 60 in 2005.
