MILWAUKEE -- Shawn Estes was sharp on the mound, and even better at the plate.

Estes had a run-scoring double, Shawn Chacon worked out of his one-out, bases-loaded jam in the ninth inning and the Colorado Rockies ended their eight-game road losing streak with a 3-2 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers on Wednesday night.

"It was nice to make some contact and hit it solid," Estes said. "You never really know how you do it. You just kind of swing and it hit the meat of the bat and it goes far."

Estes (8-3) allowed two runs and six hits in 7 1/3 innings and Aaron Miles had a two-run single in the three-run third for the Rockies, who are a major league worst 9-26 on the road.

"It was a very good start out of Estes," Colorado manager Clint Hurdle said. "I think he was pretty much spent when we did bring him out."

Tim Harikkala relieved Estes with one out in the eighth and walked the first batter he faced to load the bases. Harikkala got Bill Hall to foul out behind home plate for the second out, but then walked Keith Ginter to make the score 3-2. Harikkala then induced pinch-hitter Brooks Kieschnick to foul out to the catcher to end the threat.

Chacon relieved to start the ninth and loaded the bases on a walk, a fielder's choice and an intentional walk. He then got Lyle Overbay to fly out to left and Brady Clark to pop out to first for his 14th save in 20 chances.

"Harikkala and Chacon got outs," Hurdle said. "It wasn't pretty. They both pitched with resolve after some adversity."

The Rockies did all their scoring in the third inning. Matt Holliday and Todd Greene hit back-to-back singles off Chris Capuano (2-3). Estes then hit the first pitch he saw off the left-center field wall for a double, scoring Holliday. It was Estes' first double of the season and second RBI.

Miles followed with a blooper into shallow right on an 0-2 pitch, driving in Greene and Estes to put Colorado up 3-0.

Overbay homered, his of eighth of the season, 425 feet to right on a 2-0 pitch from Estes in the fourth inning to draw the Brewers within 3-1.

It was Overbay's second home run off a left-handed pitcher this season.

Estes, who entered the game with four hits this season and a .125 average, added a single in the seventh. Before Wednesday, Estes was hitless in his last 13 at-bats.

Overbay, who entered the game hitting .345, was frustrated with the team's inability to get hits late with runners in scoring position.

"We had every opportunity to at least tie the thing," said Overbay, who was 2-for-5. "We came up short."
