Rockies 2, Diamondbacks 1 (10 innings, 2nd game)

DENVER -- On a day when Colorado pitching dominated at Coors Field, a bloop single by Jeromy Burnitz gave the Rockies a doubleheader sweep.

Burnitz singled home the winning run off Randy Choate in the 10th inning and the Rockies beat the Arizona Diamondbacks.

"He pretty much beat me on that pitch and jammed me and broke my bat," Burnitz said. "It was one of those ones that fell in there for us."

"We played 19 innings of baseball and only gave up two runs in our park," Colorado manager Clint Hurdle said. "We will be facing a different lineup tomorrow, but these were the guys we faced today and our pitchers pitched well."

Arizona has lost 106 games, most in the majors. The Diamondbacks have dropped nine of their last 10 on the road.

Todd Helton doubled to start the 10th inning and Choate (2-4) intentionally walked Vinny Castilla. Burnitz's single fell in front of left fielder Andy Green.

"I try to do the same thing every at-bat, get a pitch down the middle and take my best swing," Burnitz said. "Nothing changes for me no matter what the situation is. I took a good swing, but he jammed me and it's a good thing."

Allan Simpson (2-1) worked a scoreless 10th to earn the victory.

Casey Fossum kept Colorado in check for six innings and left in the seventh with a 1-0 lead. He struck out nine and allowed seven hits.

"We still can't find a way to score runs on the road," Arizona manager Al Pedrique said. "It's hard to score when you are coming up with two outs and nobody on base and that's what happened today."

Colorado starter Jamey Wright gave up eight hits and a run in seven innings while striking out seven.

Wright was solid after the Diamondbacks took a 1-0 lead in the first. Alex Cintron and Chad Tracy hit one-out singles and Shea Hillenbrand had a sacrifice fly.

"As long as we win, it's all right that I don't get a decision," Wright said. "If I hadn't messed around in the first inning, it would have been a 0-0 game until the inning where we scored.

The Rockies tied it at 1 in the seventh when Aaron Miles led off with a walk and Clint Barnes reached on a bunt single. Mike Koplove retired the next two batters before Vinny Castilla hit an RBI single.

Notes

It was the second one-admission doubleheader played at Coors Field. ... Hammock landed headfirst into the dirt in left field going after Burnitz's ground-rule double in the third inning of the first game. ... Johnson started the first game, his first start in nine games.
