LOS ANGELES -- Russell Martin tuned up for his first All-Star appearance with a lot of offense before taking the rest of the day off.

Martin went 2-for-2 with a two-run homer, three RBI, three runs scored and a walk, Andre Ethier added a three-run shot and the Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Florida Marlins 9-3 on Sunday to avoid a sweep heading into the break.

The Dodgers had lost four in a row and seven of their last 11 before salvaging the finale of the three-game series.

"I'd rather finish with a win and have these next couple days to sit on that than go in with a loss," said Martin, who left in the fifth inning.

He will be the NL's starting catcher in Tuesday's All-Star game at San Francisco.

"You can't have good days every day, but you can try," he said. "We're starting to swing the bats a little bit. A couple of our guys are known to be second-half producers, so it's going to be an exciting second part of the season."

Pitching on three days' rest, Mark Hendrickson (3-4) allowed two runs and four hits in five innings, struck out six and walked one in ending a four-game losing skid. The left-hander started in place of Randy Wolf, who went on the 15-day disabled list July 4 because of left shoulder pain.

"I felt pretty good out there. It was kind of do whatever we could this week just to kind of give some of those guys in the bullpen a rest," said Hendrickson, who was pulled after 72 pitches.

"The body was a little bit tired, but obviously, (manager) Grady (Little) made that call," he said. "I was OK with it."

Scott Olsen (6-7) gave up three runs on five hits in one inning, struck out one and walked one -- his shortest outing of the season. He left after 31 pitches because of a stiff back and is day-to-day.

"I've just got a bad back in general. Some days are better than others," said Olsen, who plans to throw on the side Thursday and hopes to make his scheduled start next Sunday. "I just couldn't get out and get extended, so I guess that makes your velocity go, and you're going to miss up more than you should. I've never had that much of a drop (in velocity)."

The Dodgers scored their first three runs on Martin's career-high 11th homer and an RBI single by Ramon Martinez, who came off the 15-day DL on Sunday.

Wes Obermueller replaced Olsen in the second and didn't fare any better.

The right-hander gave up RBI singles to Martin and Nomar Garciaparra before Ethier sent a 1-2 pitch into center field with two outs, extending the Dodgers' lead to 8-0.

Ethier entered in the second as a defensive replacement for right fielder Matt Kemp, who strained his right hamstring while lunging for first base on a single.

The Dodgers provided some much-needed offense for Hendrickson. He has received the worst run support of any pitcher in baseball with a minimum of 163 innings since the start of 2006, averaging 3.21 runs.

The Marlins trailed 8-2 in the third on an RBI single by Hanley Ramirez and an RBI groundout by Dan Uggla.

Obermueller walked Martinez with the bases loaded in the fourth to force in Martin, who was issued one of three walks in the inning when the Dodgers led 9-2.

Marlins 3B Miguel Cabrera was in the starting lineup but didn't play because of a jammed left shoulder sustained while making a diving stop Saturday night. He will miss the Home Run Derby at the All-Star game. ... Martin has 60 RBI at the break. ... The Marlins have never swept a three-game series in Los Angeles. ... The Dodgers enter the break 49-40, three games ahead of last season's pace. Florida is 42-47 at the halfway point, four games better than a year ago. ... A shirtless fan jumped out of the stands in right field in the ninth inning and was tackled by security. While that was going on, another fan jumped from the stands in right and ran along the warning track, evading security for several moments before getting caught. "It was a funny way to end the first half," Martin said. "It's unfortunate those guys are going to get in trouble, but you got to laugh about that kind of stuff. They're not really trying to hurt anybody."
