ATLANTA -- Andrew Miller got his first win for the Marlins with some clutch pitching, and power hitting from his teammates.

Mike Jacobs hit a two-run homer and Hanley Ramirez added a solo shot to lead Florida to a 7-2 win over the Atlanta Braves on Wednesday night.

Dan Uggla went 3-for-5, including a two-run triple in the ninth for the Marlins, who have won four of five and hold a 1½-game lead in the NL East.

Miller (1-2) went five adventurous innings. He threw 99 pitches, 55 in the first two innings and allowed nine hits and two walks, but only the two runs, leaving nine Braves stranded.

"There was a lot of danger tonight," said the lanky 6-foot-6 left-hander, who had lost four straight decisions dating back to last August when he was with the Detroit Tigers.

"I was up and down -- too many hits, but it nice to have the team win a game I pitched and nice (for me) to get a win," said Miller, acquired the deal that sent Miguel Cabrera and Dontrelle Willis to Detroit. "Being in trouble all night is kind of taxing. I didn't feel like I was under pressure to get a win, but it was nice to get one."

The Marlins jumped on Atlanta starter Jeff Bennett (0-1) for three runs in the first inning on the leadoff home run by Ramirez and Jacobs' two-run shot. It was the seventh home run for each player.

Jacobs had only 17 homers last season.

"I don't think it's much of a story. If I stay healthy and get the at-bats, the numbers will be there," he said. "I played through injuries the last two years."

Jacobs is hitting .287 with 17 RBI so far. He hit .265 last season with 54 RBI, but missed five weeks with a fractured right thumb. In 2006, he hit .262 with 20 homers and 87 RBI while missing 26 games.

The Marlins added two runs -- one unearned -- in the eighth.

Uggla singled with one out and took third on a double to right by Jeremy Hermida. Josh Willingham then grounded to shortstop Yunel Escobar, whose throw home hit a sliding Uggla at the plate for an error. Jacobs' long fly ball to left off Blaine Boyer scored Hermida.

Bennett pitched well after the first, holding Florida scoreless for the next five innings. He allowed six hits, three runs, walked one and struck out four and left trailing 3-2 after six innings.

"He was sick as heck," said Atlanta manager Bobby Cox of the right-hander who was ailing with a virus.

"Yesterday he had a 101 temperature. Six innings out of him was almost impossible," he said.

"I'll be honest with you. I don't know how I did it. I had a fever for the last three days," said Bennett.

The Braves scored an unearned run in the first when Escobar reached on Ramirez's error and scored on a single by Mark Teixeira.

Atlanta got within 3-2 in the second on a solo home run by Matt Diaz, but left eight runners on base off the left-hander in the first four innings.

The Braves wound up leaving 13 runners on base.

"We were one hit away from winning the game several times and just didn't hit the ball good at the right time," Cox said.

Teixeira left five runners on. He bounced out with the bases loaded and two outs in the second and again in the fourth with runners at first and second and two outs.

"He battled. I hope he can build on that," Florida manager Fredi Gonzalez said of Miller. "He got out of some jams and got some good hitters out, including one of the best hitters in baseball right now (Jones, in the fourth with two on) and Teixeira with the bases loaded (in the second)."

Kelly Johnson, Teixeira, Brian McCann and Diaz each had two hits apiece for the Braves.

Notes

The leadoff home run by Ramirez was his second of the season and 17th of his career. ... Atlanta LHP Mike Hampton is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment Friday at Triple A Richmond. He's on the 15-day DL with strained left pectoral muscle. ... INF Omar Infante, recovering from a fractured right hand, will play in extended spring training games Thursday. ... LHP Mike Gonzalez, recovering from Tommy John surgery on his left elbow, pitched to seven batters Tuesday in extended spring training. "He's getting real close," Cox said. "Mid-May is possible." ... Florida has come from behind in eight of their wins.
